I am a puppy
Sometimes too nice
Hardly too mean

People see always
The good in me
But never
The bad

You may not
Know me
The Angry
and mean side

I am sweet
But yet sour

I can be shy
At first
But later I will be friendly

I can be active
And I can be lazy

If you threaten
My family
I will be fiesty
But other than that

essay (A coney island life)

  The world today consists of many people that are starting to take the world for granted. Many do not realize that time doesn’t wait for anyone which is why one must value every single accomplishment, enjoy every minute, fulfill our hopes and dreams, and appreciate the many things we have in life. In the poem “A Coney Island Life”, the poet James L. Weil compares life to his time at Coney Island.  In this poem the poet is telling his readers the fact that all of what he has hoped and dreamed for is vanishing and is describing it as his one last ride. 

  The poem tells the readers that you must use your time wisely in order to have the life you’ve dreamed of. This poem consists of many hidden meaning behind each line such as “Having lived a Coney Island life, on roller coaster ups and downs”, James L. Weil is using the roller coasters to describe the many hardships and also the good things that had happen throughout his life. Another quote from this poem is “and seen my helium hopes, break skyward without me”, this is telling the people that the helium or in another form, a balloon, represents his hopes and dreams and it’s floating away from him, leaving him unable to do anything about it except watch as it “breaks skyward” or leaves without him. 

    Although this is a poem that doesn’t consist of many lines or stanzas, it holds much meaning within its content. “I take perhaps my last my last ride on this planet-carousel and ask, how many more times round”, these lines symbolize his last few chances to make a difference in his life and the poet asks himself how much longer does he have, or how many years does he have left to live. Finally the piece that completes the poem, “I have to catch the brass ring sun before the game is up”, the brass ring describes the last remaining chances he has before the ride, in other words his life, comes to an end. 

  Through metaphor and simile the poet relates the success, hardships, and limitations of life to a game at the carnival. In life, opportunities will come our way and we have to make sure we don't take them for granted.  Time is very precious and we can't expect life to wait on us to understand the beauty of the lives we live. Every moment of your life counts and you don't realize how much you really have until your faced with the end. Through metaphors and similes, the poet portrays that life is short so we must appreciate life before times up. Therefore, he makes us think about our personal lives.

Competitions in Paradise 

           

Everybody thinks Hawaii is all about the beaches, paradise, & vacations, but there is a lot more to it than that.  Hawaii can be a very competitive State.  There are many different competitions that Hawaii has that most people just don’t know about.  For example, there are canoe paddling and surfing competitions, which were founded by the early Hawaiians. There is the famous Merrie Monarch festival, that is a hula competition held in Hilo.  Finally, there is the Kamehameha song contest, which is a singing competition between the different grades.  The Kamehameha song contest is the most unique competition.  It is the only competition that takes the contest so seriously that it is shown on television around the State of Hawaii.      

There is great history behind the Kamehameha song contest.  The Kamehameha song contest has been a big tradition for many, many years.  They just had their 93^rd annual song contest earlier this year.  The director of the song contest from 1926-1947 was Miss Laura Brown.  She stated, "“the objectives of the song contest are to build up the repertoire of the best in Hawaiian music for the cultural heritage of any student who attends Kamehameha; to develop leadership, cooperation and good class spirit; and to give students the use of their singing voices and to give them pleasure in singing as a means of expression.”    By having the Kamehameha song contest, the students are able to work together to learn more about their own native culture and language.

 The Kamehameha song contest has been a tradition for the past 92 years.  An important part of the Kamehameha song contest for the students is learning about the culture of Hawaii.  Culture is very important to the native Hawaiians because at one point the Hawaiians couldn’t speak their native language and dance hula.  That’s why the Merrie Monarch is also a good example of the Hawaiian culture.  The Kamehameha song contest brings back the culture because  all the songs that they choose is sung in the Hawaiian language.  The students also dress in aloha attire and wear leis that were made from flowers that were gathered from around the State.  After the song competition, the entire student body participates in ho'ike.  At the ho'ike, students sing Hawaiian songs and dance the hula.  The song contest helps Kamehameha students appreciate the Hawaiian culture.

Hawaiian language is a big part of the Kamehameha song contest because it brings back how the Hawaiians really spoke through songs.  The Kamehameha song contest helps teach the kids their own language and helps keeps the language alive.  The students also learn how to sing the language by singing every song in Hawaiian that is given to the different types of groups.  The Hawaiian language is a big part of the Kamehameha song contest because students learn the words of the song.  That helps them understand the Hawaiian language.  For example, students last year performed a song called "Pua Hinano".  They learned that this song was about a flower called the hinano and its great beauty. That’s why the Kamehameha song contest is a big part of the Hawaiian language.

The Kamehameha song contest has been a part of Hawaiian history for many years and is important to the students of Kamehameha School.  It is something that the students look forward to every year and is a tradition that hopefully continues for many years.   The song contest is a big part of Hawaii because it brings back culture, language, and history.  That’s why the Kamehameha song contest is important to Hawaii.

Kamehameha schools have been going on for a long time.   They been doing song contest for about 92 years.  The director of the Kamehameha song contest is Laura brown.  She does all the songs and picking it all out.  Song contest has many different groups, such as all girls, all boys, and mixed.  Each year song contest has different kinds of Hawaiian songs for each of the different groups.  By having song contest the students can learn the language and how to sing and talk in Hawaiian.  This is really important to their culture.

The most important part of the Kamehameha song contest is the culture.  The Hawaiian culture is important because at one point they got their culture taken away.  So it’s a good thing that they are bringing it back.  By bringing the culture back the Kamehameha song contest is making the students sing everything in Hawaiian. and there are many different songs for each group.  Its really good that Kamehameha teaches the students to talk and sing in Hawaiian because hardly any one now days no how to talk in Hawaiian.

         The song contest is also a big part in Hawaiian culture.  It brings back the language of the native Hawaiians.  The songs in the song contest are songs that have only Hawaiian language in them.  The Hawaiian language songs is good so that the students can learn how to speak and sing the language and song.  The song contest is a big part in the language because it teaches the students how to speak their own language.  That’s why the Kamehameha song contest is a big part in the Hawaiian culture.

By the middle of the century fisherman will have nothing left to catch!  Our oceans are having less fish each decades. Over fishing is becoming a problem these past few years.  The fish that the fisherman often catch is usually dead or discarded.  Now that their is an over fishing problem fisherman will have nothing left to catch!  Fisherman should be careful of how much fish they catch.  Many of these species have been existence.  From over fishing we already lost about 90% the oceans big predators like cod and tuna.  We should stop the over fishing.

Sea food would be rare because of over fishing then the sea food would be too expensive.  Not many people will be able to afford it and sea food would be a really rare thing.  That's why over the past three decades trades has grown fourfold, to 30 million tons, and its value has increased ninfold, to $71 billion.  Now cause of the problem of over fishing they have way more shrimp and fish farms.  To protect the fish they are now reducing or eliminating the fishing practices.  Most fish caught by fishermen are often dead or discarded.  Some of the fish species have been collapsed, according to the the study, and the trend is accelerating.  For this safety the aquariums have been handing out pocket guides about the problem of over fishing since 1999.  That's why we should stop the over fishing!

Over fishing is a problem that we must face today.  Soon one of our biggest species of fish will be existence.  The fisherman will have very few fish to catch. If this over fishing problem gets out of hand the sea food will be to rare and expensive.  Fisherman should be careful of how much fish they catch, soon they will become existence.

        packing up my stuff waiting for the bell to ring I tap my finger to the melody in my head.  I constantly stare at the clock as if the clock was staring back at me.  I could just here my self saying "5 more minutes 5 more minutes."  I could now not here the teachers voice, my brain blocking her out thinking too much of the end of school.  I can here my self again "1 more minute 1 more minute!"  Finally it rang.  Pushing my way through the door and through the crowd, trying to find my friends.  I see them running to them the sun shinning in my eye I get to them.  waiting and waiting for the rest of my friends to come I can already feel the stress and weight off my shoulder.  As they all came we grabbed our things and ran down the stairs.  I could see the bright blue building in front of me.  finally we were there.
       As we walked in i felt no stress of anything.  Grabbing the heavy blue chairs. poles, nets, and the blue and gray volleyballs.  walking into the back in the locker room putting on my jersey, shoes, knee pads, socks.  everything that was on my mind during school is now erased.  I can feel the excitement of everyone.  we were all talking and laughing.  everyone had a smile on their face.  I couldn't wait for the game to start.  Everyone that was in the locker ran out side.  one by one everyone took their seats.  Butterfly's in my stomach as i see the audience cheering.  I felt relaxed. 
       Finally what felt like forever it was our turn to play.  I could here the voices of the crowd as we warm up.  tossing the ball up hitting it then passing it my mind was blank only thinking of the game.  I could see all the smiles on everybody's face.  we won the coin toss shagging the balls that the hitters hit, i could see the clock counting down minute by minute by minute.  The game finally started.  we took our seats.  our coach yelling at the people at the people on the court seeing them looking nervous.  the game ended we won.
        we gathered around I could smell everyone socks and knee pads.  we were all excited and happy that we won.  our coaches were finally done talking.  we went in the back everyone cheering and talking we all grabbed our stuff and left.  I now have to go back to the stress of school and other things.
